A Library for the Future:Building Together
The Vision
Chilton Public Library has long served as a cornerstone for learning, connection, and growth in our community. As we look to the future, we envision a new facility that better supports the needs of our patrons, offering modern spaces for work, education, healthcare access, digital equity, and community engagement.

A new building isn’t just about more space—it’s about more opportunity:
-
Expanded public computer and Wi-Fi access
-
Dedicated spaces for children, teens, and quiet study
-
Programming areas to support job seekers, health literacy, and digital skills
-
Improved accessibility and energy efficiency
-
Increased community space

How We Got Here

In 2023, the Chilton Public Library began working with an engineering and architecture firm to assess the current library building and explore future possibilities. Their findings confirmed what many community members had already experienced: the existing facility may no longer be able to meet the evolving needs of our patrons or the demands of modern library services.

Key findings from the assessment included:

-
Insufficient space for programs, collections, and quiet study areas
-
Limited accessibility, particularly for individuals with mobility challenges
-
Aging infrastructure, including outdated HVAC, lighting, and electrical systems
-
Inadequate technology infrastructure to support expanded broadband or digital literacy services
-
An undersized children’s area that limits early literacy opportunities

In response to these findings, the library developed a concept design with expanded space for education, community gatherings, and digital equity. This design was included in a major grant proposal in 2024, which—although ultimately not funded—laid the groundwork for long-term planning.

Recognizing the community’s enthusiasm and the need for a better facility, a group of passionate residents re-formed the Friends of the Chilton Public Library with a five-year goal: raise at least 50% of the cost of a new library through fundraising, sponsorships, and community partnerships.
Where We Are Now
Thanks to early support and renewed momentum, we are:

-
Sharing our concept design used in the grant application (note: this is not the final blueprint, but a starting point for discussion).
-
Meeting with local leaders and potential donors
-
Planning community events and fundraisers
-
Developing naming and sponsorship opportunities

Stay tuned for exciting updates, concept drawings, and ways you can help shape the future of your library!
